Poetry & Rap Slam
Description
The objective of this competition is to encourage creative expression through poetry, prose and rap, thereby fostering a love of Islamic arts and culture by imparting skills in language, creativity, writing and communication. Individuals or Teams will submit their written poetry/rap for pre-screening at least three weeks prior to the competition. Approved pieces of work will be presented and judged in front of a live audience and a panel of experienced judges.Fans will also select a Fan Favourite.
Competition Rules
Individuals/Teams:
- All participants must be between the ages of 13-18 years inclusive
- Entries may be submitted by an individual or on behalf of a team.
- The competition is open to all Canadian High School aged youth.
Content/Format:
- Poems must not exceed 60 lines (not including title)
- Raps should not exceed 4 minutes
- Entries must be in English, French or Arabic
- Poems/raps must not have been previously published, self-published or published on a website or broadcast before the competition takes place
- Each poem or rap must be given a title
- Poems/raps must be the original work of the author
- There is no restriction on the number of poems or raps submitted by each applicant, however, each poem/rap will be judged separately
- Poetry/Rap may be of any genre (fiction, comedy, documentary, animated, etc)
- Poetry/Rap should include an Islamic Message or convey a positive meaning
- Poetry/Rap content must be free from all of the following:
- Violence
- Foul/offensive language
- Sexually suggestive content
- Any other content that may be considered offensive or inappropriate
- The pre-screening team reserves the right to disqualify submissions for inappropriate content as they feel necessary
Judging Criteria:
Poetry/Raps will be judged based on the following criteria:

Submission:
- All entries must be submitted to the MAC YOUTH QUEST rep in your city at least 3 weeks before the day of the competition.
- All entries must be accompanied by an entry form, which can be downloaded from the MAC YOUTH QUEST website. One entry form covers multiple entries.
- Alterations cannot be made to poems/raps after they have been submitted.

- The copyright of each poem/rap remains with the author
- Authors of the winning poems/raps will grant MAC the right to post, distribute and/or use its material
