Short Film Showdown
Description
The objective of this competition is to encourage the creative expression of Islamic culture through audio-visual media. Teams will submit their films for pre-screening and the approved films will be presented and judged by designated judges with expertise in the creative arts. Fans will also select a Fan Favourite.
Competition Rules
Individuals/Teams:
- Contestants may chose to produce their films independently or in groups of up to 5 members
- All members of the team must be between the ages of 13-18 years inclusive
Content:
- Films may be of any genre (fiction, comedy, documentary, animated, etc)
- Film content must be free from all of the following:
- Violence
- Foul/offensive language
- Sexually suggestive content
- Any other content that may be considered offensive or inappropriate
- For the music or sound that go with the short videos – No inappropriate words – foul language, sexual inuendos, suggestive language, or Love songs.
- The pre-screening team reserves the right to disqualify films for inappropriate content as they feel necessar
Format:
- Films must be no less than 5 minutes and no longer than 7 minutes in length from beginning to end, including opening and closing credits
- Films may be submitted in any of the following formats:
- Mini DV
- VHS
- DVD (Video format)
Judging Criteria:
Short films will be judged on the following criteria

Submission:
- All films must be submitted to the respective MAC YOUTH QUEST rep 3 weeks before the date of the competition in order to qualify.
- All submissions must include a 1-page summary including the following:
- An explanation of the message that the film aims to portray
- An explanation of how the film was produced
- A breakdown of the distribution of duties for each of the team members
Copyright:
- The copyright of each film remains with the author
- Producers of the winning films will grant MAC the right to post, distribute and/or use its material
