Trivia Face-Off
Description
The objective of this portion of the competition is to encourage the quest for knowledge and to develop leadership and teamwork skills, all while having fun in a competitive atmosphere.
Teams will study pre-assigned materials on a variety of topics. On the day of the competition they will compete with other teams on trivia questions formed from the pre-assigned reading material. Successful teams will progress to higher, more challenging rounds until one winning team is left. We hope that this live competition will be exciting, entertaining and educational for both the participants and the viewers.
Competition Rules
Individuals/Teams:
- Teams may consist of up to 8 members, but only 4 members may compete in each round. The additional members may sit on the side bench but will not be allowed to answer questions during the rounds they are not participating in.
- All members of the team must be between the ages of 13-18 years inclusive
Rules of the Competition:
- There will be four categories for this competition: Quran, Seerah & Islamic History, 40 Hadith Al-Nawawi, and World Issues.
- Teams may shuffle their team members between rounds.
- The materials that the questions will be based on should be studied prior to the competition. These materials are posted on the MAC YOUTH QUEST website.
- The person reading the questions will state the category and the number of points awarded for each question prior to reading the question.
- Teams will be asked a question and must wait until the entire question is asked before hitting their buzzer.
- A team may only attempt to answer the question if they are the first to hit their buzzer after the question is asked.
- If a team hits their buzzer and answers the question before the question is fully asked, they will only be awarded half the points for that question.
- Teams have 5 seconds after hitting the buzzer to answer the question.
- If the team answers the question incorrectly, the other team may attempt to answer the question for half the points.
- Teams may discuss answers before answering or before buzzing.
- Teams will lose half points if they answer the question incorrectly.
- If teams are found cheating, they will be disqualified.
Teams will lose points for inappropriate behaviour which may include:
- Using inappropriate language
- Being disrespectful to the person asking the questions
- Being disrespectful to the judges
- Being disrespectful to the members of their team or the members of other teams.
Application Process:
- The names of the teams, along with the names and ages of each team member must be submitted to the MAC YOUTH QUEST rep in your city at least 3 weeks before the competition.
